The early Army poncho was made from OD rubberized cotton material; but wartime economies of strategic materials soon led to its production in synthetic resin-coated OD nylon fabric. Double snap fasteners on the edges allowed the forming of rudimentary sleeves, and metal grommets permitted poncho to be tied together to make tent-like shelters. Neither type of poncho had a hood; both types had a drawstring neck closure.
