While the M41 field jacket was initially liked by the GIs, it soon
proved to be inadequate in the field. It was unable to provide
sufficient warmth or protection from rain and it quickly shown it's
wear. The M43 field jacket was introduced as an attempt to improve on
the M41 Army combat uniform. It proved to be a much superior design with
it's four large pockets and increased length.
The M43, made from cotton sateen, was still insufficiently resistant to
water and a pile liner was made for colder weather. The color was to be
olive drab shade No.7 but typically a lot of variations were made. |
