The USS George Washington was America's first nuclear powered
ballistic missile submarine. She was launched at Electric Boat on June 10, 1959.
She was the only ballistic missile submarine in the world at the time of the
Cuban Missile crisis and is the reason why the Soviets withdrew missiles from
Cuba. She was the first of 41 SSBN Submarines that were to keep the peace
through strength during the 1960's to 1980's.
The Blue Water Navy kit measures 12.5 inches long and is a perfect first kit.
The hull is a single casting with metal dive planes. A great weekend project.
